Tulle Lover

Choosing a name for my new blog was relatively easy as I knew I had it to involve my favourite fabric. This blog is all about my love and fascination of all things tulle – my favourite fabric of all time.

My love affair with tulle started at a very young age as I lay in my Nanas spare bedroom looking at the pictures on her wall of beautiful ballerinas. I dreamt of having a beautiful dress made out of this fabric one day and now I have several. Even though I don’t have the physique of a ballerina, I love and admire ballerinas and the gracefulness of these beautiful creatures.

Into my teens my love of tulle was further fuelled by a couple of my Style Icons, Madonna and Marilyn Monroe wearing this fabric. I loved how they wore it so differently – and soon incorporated a Desperately Seeking Susan type of vibe into my looks.

Further into my teens and I studied hairdressing and black tulle, ripped tights and doc martens became the look of choice. I still enjoy dressing this way today – but my tights are no longer ripped, and I have adapted this look to feel modern and fresh.

Tulle has become very fashionable over the last few seasons and continues to be highly featured on the catwalks and in ready to wear ranges. In New Zealand my favourite fashion designer, Trelise Cooper continues to create gorgeous looks in tulle. Some of her tulle skirts are my most worn garments and I love to update the colours each season. Here are some fashionable looks using tulle.

Me wearing Trelise Cooper Tulle

Some of my very first social media pictures from 3 years back see me wearing Trelise Cooper tulle skirts and trainers.

Tulle also brings to mind weddings and special event dressing – I still have a vivid picture in my mind of Princess Diana and her gorgeous tulle veil.

Layering tulle to give it depth is very current at present and so is wearing tulle in a monochrome look.

I could go on for days about this beautiful feminine fabric and all of the emotions and memories that it has for me – but I wont. I hope that you have enjoyed these images and an insight into the inspiration of my blog.

I will leave you with this gorgeous image of these pretties.
